Volunteer Coast Guard

A dedicated, volunteer-based organisation committed to ensuring the safety and security of Australia’s maritime community.

The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard has a proud history of service providing essential marine rescue services, safety education, and support for boaters across the country. Our mission is to save lives at sea, promote safe boating practices, and assist in emergencies on the water.

Our Services

Marine Search and Rescue Operations

Operating under State and Territory Emergency Management frameworks, our distinct yellow vessels respond to a variety of marine incident types, rescuing thousands of people each year. We are equipped to handle emergencies ranging from distressed vessels to marine fires and medical evacuations. Our highly trained volunteers are on standby 24/7, ready to provide rapid response and expert assistance in critical situations.

Offshore Vessel Tracking

We offer offshore vessel tracking to ensure the safety of boats traveling far from shore. Our advanced tracking systems help monitor vessel positions and provide timely assistance if needed.

Recreational Vessel Monitoring via SafeTrx

Our SafeTrx smartphone app allows recreational boaters to log their voyages and share their journey with us. This monitoring service enhances safety by providing real-time tracking and support in case of emergencies.

Marine Assist Membership

Our Marine Assist Membership program offers peace of mind to boat owners, providing access to a range of support services, including towing, jump-starts, and fuel delivery. Members can rely on our prompt and professional assistance when they need it most.

Marine Radio Monitoring

We continuously monitor marine radio channels to ensure clear and effective communication with boaters. Our vigilance helps coordinate rescue operations and provides essential support to vessels in distress.

Public Education and Accredited Training

As a Registered Training Organisation, we deliver accredited training to our volunteers and offer public education courses. Our range of educational services includes:

  • Marine Licence courses
  • Marine Radio Licence courses
  • Coastal Navigation courses

These programs are designed to enhance boating safety and knowledge within the community.

Community Engagement and Events

We actively participate in community events and provide public education on marine safety. Our volunteers engage with the public through boat shows, safety demonstrations, and informative workshops. Additionally, we host memorial services to honor those who have lost their lives at sea.
